1. Furimbus • 5 yr. ago. There's an option in the Apple Store app to view the two options actual-size on the screen of your phone. I have a 42 and will get the 44. I was surprised by how much larger the 44 seemed while the 40 seemed just about the same size as the 42 currently on my wrist. 56. ampinjapan • 5 yr. ago. What I did was take the watch n placed it on my wrist without putting on the straps!! To check how big it looks vis-a-vis my wrist. I had maybe a couple of mms on each side so I was okay with it. What you have to also consider is the screen real estate. I found 44/46 mm to be that much better than 40/42 mm ones to get more information on screen.
44 is too big for most people. 40 looks perfect. The problem is the difference in battery size. After Watching reviews on youtube, i think that the difference is about 7-8 hours of battery ( which for me is a lot). Hopefully that the new update gives a boost and maybe also gw5 give us small-wristed a change.
The watch is much easier to wear and the screen size is plenty enough with series 7 for general usage. Don’t really know any reasons where bigger would be better in my case. 41mm looks “normal” size while 45mm would still function ok on your wrist but looks too big/cumbersome to my eyes. My wrist is also the same size and I have the 41mm

I went from the 42mm S2 to the 40mm S5, but it wasn't because the size was better - they were both fine - it was to save money on the purchase; the 40mm was $50 cheaper IIRC. If the 42mm S1 was the perfect size for you, you'll want to go with a 44mm S6. Staying with the Series 4 Apple reduced the bezels
